Once you arrived, you might want to take the next step: Register to get your wristband. Look here.

By Train

  • Good international train connections. Book as early as possible!

By Car

  • Ride Share: For ecological reasons, please get as many passengers as safely possible on board. For car sharing, please have a look at the forum!
  • Motorway Sticker: Unless you decide to travel small roads, you will need an Austrian motorway sticker, which, for one week, is less then 10€ for a week and can be purchased directly at the borders.
  • Austrian Motorways: They are OK. Speed maximum 130cph. For a quick coffee / free pee try the "Rastplatz" instead of the full blown motorway stations.
  • Parking in Vienna: Be aware that there's a significant parking fee for non-residents in Vienna and long term parking in the city is not allowed! Anyway there are quite affordable places to put your car, from about 5€ per day. Have a look here for an overview: www.parkopedia.at
  • Parking outside of Vienna: If you don't need your car during Folk Marathon, it might be a good option to leave your car close to Vienna in the surroundings, for instance in towns like Mödling or Korneuburg. Both have short-time parking zones in the center, but also free parking in a reasonable distance from the train station and offer frequent train connections to Vienna.

By Bus

  • There are connections from all over the place to Vienna, for instance with Flixbus company.

By Plane

  • Vienna Airport is located about 20km South East of Vienna. Also Bratislava and Brno airports (and maybe, if you're travelling from further away, Linz, Graz, Salzburg and Prague) provide good possibilities to land quite close to Vienna.
  • Train connections from Vienna airport to the city center and back are good. Avoid the overpriced "CAT" (City Airport Train, light green advertising) and instead go with the regular trains (see photo! Just a black-on-white railway symbol). The regular trains (to "Landstraße / Wien Mitte" or "Hauptbahnhof" only takes a few minutes longer and is much cheaper, in particular if you already have a city ticket. This blog page might assist you, also with buying the right ticket: https://www.travellingwithnikki.com/2019/02/how-to-get-from-vienna-airport-to-vienna-by-the-s-bahn/ (Photo also taken from there - thanks!)
