from its early days, Folk Marathon has always consisted of some important building blocks:
- Sessions / Parties: The original reason why we started Folk Marathon! The best and most important part of folky music making and dancing is the informal one, including lots of collective fun and individual freedom.
- Workshops: Pass on your knowledge and get people interested in what you find worthwhile, interesting and cool.
- Performances: Enter the stage to play for dancing and listening, sharing your approaches, experiences and artistic imaginations.
- Interest Groups: You want to find people who share your passion about a music or dance related topic? Connect in advance and meet at the Folk Marathon to exchange, discuss, jam and build friendships.
Performances: Bals & Concerts
On every evening, there will be music for listening and for dancing (and space for the latter - sometimes more, sometimes less).
Please have a look at the detailed schedule for details!
How to participate?
All evening activities, bals and concerts are included in the Folk Marathon Pass! You're still welcome to support your favourite band by an extra tip (tip hat at the front of the stage). Without a pass, there will be a limited number of tickets for the evening activities available at the entrance: 15€ for Dec 29 and 30 and Jan 01. 25€ for New Year's Eve - you may still reserve your ticket. More details about participation here: vienna.folkmarathon.org/participate
Workshops
There will be about 80 workshops during Folk Marathon.
Please have a look at the list of workshops (almost final)! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sD2mf-Gs8HZKEfRWBQ8hNywqnkPCgg9…
Most of the workshop venues are located quite close to each other, so it's fairly easy to change from one to another. If you need directions to easily find there, please have a look at the green markers on the locations map (and the orange one, which is for our HQ, Fanialive). If you click on a marker, you'll get more details about the venue.
How to participate?
- With a Folk Marathon Pass, all workshops are free to participate.
- If you don't have a pass, please support the workshop leaders with a little donation of about 7-10€ per workshop.
Sessions and Partying
On every evening, there will be a lot of space for jamming and having a party! Some of the jams might be be coordinated by interest groups, some completely open. Have a look at the schedule.
How to participate?
Just come along. There is no cover charge for jams, they are free to attend for everybody with and without a Folk Marathon Pass. You're welcome to support the musicians by buying them a drink! ;)
Interest Groups
Interest groups are informal, grassroots groups during Folk Marathon (and often before and after), a tool to meet like-minded people for styles / topics of your choice, for discussing, exchange, jamming, all that...
How to participate?
In most cases, you can just join freely if you find a topic interesting. Anyway it's polite to ask first. There will be several interest groups at Vienna FM 24/25. You may find info about them on our Discord server or a (still small, but growing) list here on our website.
