Led by Sukoon Bablani
This workshop is about Indian Folk music appreciation. We will look at the history of Indian folk music and its evolution since the Vedic era. Knowledge on all relevant key-terms from Sanskrit, Hindi and regional languages will be given. The workshop also aims at providing basic information on how Indian folk music is different from Hindustani classical music and the relation between the two. We will delve into listening to some rare archives of Indian folk music from some Northern and Central Indian states - from Himalayas in the North and North-east to the Thar desert in the West. We will talk about the stories and themes of some of these folk songs and also learn to sing and play some of the folk songs together. So bring your musical instruments and singing voices.
